Traversing realms on the path to hope
Hope felt too weak to go on. After years of suffering physical and emotional abuse at the hands of The Man, she was left a fragile shadow of a woman, bone thin and locked in anxiety and depression. She wanted peace. She yearned for freedom. But in order to survive, she had to shed the shackles of victimhood and patriarchy—without destroying herself.
With only a flimsy foothold in her real world of horrors, Hope constructs from the shattered pieces of her frail life another existence. In Another Place, her mental realm, she coexists with her alter ego, Sarah St. Vincent, who equips her with the emotional tools to battle The Man. Yet as Hope becomes addicted to the catharsis of escape, her altered reality threatens to imprison her and trap her from her true existence. Only through self-discovery and her own personal evolution can she bring Sarah’s inner strength to the real world.
A dark and ambitious fiction debut, Another Place experiments with imagery, poetry, and realms of existence to explore the internal landscape of mental illness and the process of recovery and self-actualization.
This story, set in New England, centers on a young, reclusive female who must reclaim the task of reshaping her fragile reality in the modern world of patriarchy. The psychologically intense experiences of the protagonist, a creative and deeply sensitive soul, upon which multi-dimensional states of being persist, compel a mind-bending, emotional catharsis. The protagonist, Hope, a symbol and persona for the trials and tribulations in the self-discovery process, seeks a place apart where inner peace is possible and victimization ends. When the antagonist, The Man, a complex blend of faces, who is the lifelong catalyst for suffering, encounters the alter ego, Sarah St. Vincent, a stronger, more integrated sense of self gradually arises in Hope to replace former ego fragmentation. This book focuses on the imbalance in relationships that cuts deep into the wells of the unconscious.
**I recived this e-book from Netgalley in exchange of my honest review**
Another Place is Hope’s story, a nice girl with a lots of problems that she cannot control but she can change how she reacts to the things that happened and decide if she wants to do good or bad.
The story is narrated in Sarah’s point of view, she’s the other half (Soul mate) of Hope and she’s more focused, she knows who she is and what she wants to do.
Together they would have to learn how to coexist and decide what is the best for both. But it won’t be easy with The Man trying to make Hope do bad and pressing her.
I liked the story it was really interesting and it made me feel and imagine very well all the things that were happening 🙂 . However, I don’t think I’ll read other books that involve God, not because I didn’t like this book, it’s more that I feel a little disconect with that because I’m not religious and I didn’t get the meaning some of the things or words used.
Hope and Sarah are both really nice in different ways 😀 . Hope is shy and introvert because of her life but she’s also kind and sweet <3. On the other way, Sarah is more extrovert and easy going but in the sweetness and kindness they’re both the same. I really liked them and I was sorry for them because of all the things that they’d been through. 😦
My favorite part is the end 😉 . I like what represented. It made me feel like there’s hope and no matter what happens you can always make the good things and wish for a better tomorrow. ❤
The only problema I found is that a couple of times I didn’t know if Iwas Reading the life of Hope or Sarah’s but after Reading a little more I could understand who was it.
So I enjoyed it and I will give it as a present for a friend 😛 .
